The fields

Name : What appears on the order and the invoice — VAT, Sales tax, City levy.

Type and Amount : Percent or Fixed amount.

Applies to : Events, event categories or locations. Leave it open and the tax applies to everything; scope it to a location and only events held there are taxed, which is what you need when one of your venues is in another jurisdiction.

Enabled : Turn it off when a rate changes rather than deleting the old one, so past orders keep their history.

Where it shows

The tax appears as its own line in the order summary, on the booking form before payment, and on the invoice. The {tax_total} placeholder puts it in emails.

More than one

Several taxes can apply to the same order. Each is calculated and listed separately, so a customer can see what each line is for.
